A new riverside town the size of Windsor is emerging on the banks of the Thames in east London. Barking Riverside is one of the largest brownfield development sites in Europe, delivering almost 11,000 homes across 443 acres of land. Rich in ecological diversity – with creeks and wetlands home to water voles, warbler birds and bombardier beetles – the development will also be London’s only NHS Healthy Town.

Camargue was first instructed to deliver a high-profile relaunch of Barking Riverside with its new joint venture partners: the Greater London Authority and housing association and developer L&Q. Defining clear messages and effective protocols and plans, we achieved wide-ranging national, trade and local media coverage which helped set the project on a positive new footing, emphasising a faster speed of delivery and the potential for 50 per cent affordable homes.

We went on to provide communications support around critical project milestones and developed a long-term communications and engagement strategy to help connect this landmark project with stakeholders, the media and future Barking Riverside residents.

"The Camargue team played an important early-stage role to help put our project on the best possible footing as it entered a bold new stage.  They provided good advice and hands-on support where we needed it and provided a solid communications framework from which we could build momentum for this once-in-a-generation development project."
