Woolwich Exchange – sowing the seeds of grassroots support
Camargue has supported housing association Notting Hill Genesis and its joint venture partner St. Modwen on a strategically important mixed-use regeneration site in Woolwich, south east London.
The plans for Woolwich Exchange include hundreds of new homes, improved public realm, commercial space and the sensitive renewal of a listed covered market building for use as a new cinema. Involved in the project since 2016, our brief has spanned community liaison and engagement, project consultation, public events and stakeholder management, as well as scheme profiling and placemaking on social media and in local print media.
We’ve taken a proactive, positive and hyper-local approach to the brief. This has included working with our design studio, JFD, to roll out a new brand and applying a youthful approach to communications, reflecting the area’s demographics and our knowledge of the community living and working there.
As part of the programme, Camargue is acting as the link between the project team and existing community groups and initiatives – focusing on the sense of place in Woolwich and what the area’s future should look like.
The Royal Borough of Greenwich’s Planning Board approved the proposals in May 2021. We’ve since worked with the client team to promote meanwhile uses on site and maintain positive community engagement and placemaking ahead of construction.
