Oxford-MK-Cambridge and a revitalised Arc. A Camargue conversation.

On 29 January, Rachel Reeves sounded the starting gun for a revitalised Arc. Speaking at Siemens in Eynsham, she highlighted the opportunity for the region to become ‘Europe’s Silicon Valley’ and to lead the UK’s innovation economy.

Here we go again, said some. Others welcomed the Government re-invigorating the Oxford-Milton Keynes-Cambridge corridor and recognising its potential.

What everyone is trying to get to grips with is what’s different and how can we make it work this time?

Camargue hosted a round table dinner and discussion on 18 March in Oxford to draw together expertise from across the development community and explore answers and opinions on the topic.

It was a lively, hugely well-informed and insightful session within which we undertook a ‘development diagnosis’ to identify the barriers, problems and blockers from previous efforts to achieve the area’s growth potential. We then turned to more positive opinions on how we could make a success of it this time, what would make the difference, and who needs to do what. We called it a ‘prescription for good growth’.

Anyone working across the Oxford-MK-Cambridge region with an interest in bringing forward investment, development and good growth will be likely to find valuable insights in our summary report - see below.

As always with Camargue conversations, the emphasis was on bringing people together where there’s mutual opportunity and collective value. This was an excellent discussion with real insights coming from deep knowledge.

Here’s a snapshot of images from the evening – with the round table held in The Botanical Room at The Ivy, Oxford.
